Scholarship Awards

Each year, the University of Virginia chapter awards at least one (1) $500 scholarship to outstanding high school graduates planning to enter the field of education.  Scholarship information and applications are sent to area high schools each fall.  Application deadlines may be found on the chapter events calendar

Recipients are selected for chapter award(s) with the possibility of one being forwarded to the Phi Delta Kappa international office for competition at that level.  We proudly honor our commitment to public education by encouraging prospective new teachers in their chosen career.  Scholarship applications may be downloaded at the link below.

The Alton L. Taylor Administrative Leadership Award

Criteria for the Alton L. Taylor Administrative Leadership Award:

   1. May be any outstanding educational administrator.
   2. Must display qualities of excellence in leadership.
   3. Must have personal qualities of exceptional character and high standards of integrity
   4. Must be an individual who has promoted education on the local, regional, state, or national level.

Teacher of the Year Awards

Please note that separate nominations may be made for the following categories:

   a. elementary
   b. middle school
   c. high school
   d. first-year teacher

Criteria for Outstanding Teachers of the Year Awards (Elementary / Middle School / High School / First-Year):

   1. Must have leadership
   2. Must relate to students in a positive manner and have the respect of the students.
   3. Must have the highest standards of character and integrity.
   4. Must be one who motivates and inspires.
